November soybean futures on the Chicago Board of Trade rose 3.2% to $9.5475 a bushel, a record gain for the contract, after USDA acreage data came in below expectations. Two wheat contracts rose to the exchange daily limit as spring wheat plantings fell to 10.9 million acres, below every analyst estimate.
Corn plantings of 90.9 million acres exceeded forecasts.
Lower-than-expected soybean and spring wheat acreage tightens expected supply and supports prices for soybean meal and wheat used in feed rations. Corn's larger-than-expected acreage partly offsets the bullish signal for feed grains.
