The FAO is helping about 7,000 mostly small-scale farmers in Peru recover from crop damage caused by the coastal El Nino floods and landslides from January to March 2017. More than 60,000 hectares were affected and 18,000 hectares were rendered unusable.
Losses in Peru's northern coastal crops are local and small compared with world grain and feed supplies, so the price effect is minimal. The story mainly reflects the ongoing effects of the earlier El Nino event.
