USDA's November 8 Grain Transportation Report shows grain barge tonnage on the Mississippi, Ohio and Arkansas rivers was down 7 percent year-to-date as of November 3. Soybean barge shipments fell 20 percent, while corn rose 5 percent.
Barge spot rates were 16 to 28 percent below the five-year average.
Weak barge demand and low spot rates indicate soybean export weakness from the interior, pressuring soybean basis and barge freight. Corn volumes are firmer, which supports corn logistics demand.
After 788 past bearish report events, Soybeans moved a median -0.3% over 5 sessions (47% higher; middle half -2.0% to +1.5%), and -0.9% over 20.
