USDA's December WASDE cut the 2024/25 US corn ending stocks forecast by 200 million bushels to 1.738 billion, 62 million below the lowest pre-report trade estimate. The cut reflected a 150 million bushel increase in exports to 2.475 billion and 50 million more bushels for ethanol.
Soybean stocks were unchanged at 470 million bushels and wheat stocks fell 20 million to 795 million.
A much tighter US corn carryout supports corn prices, as the export and ethanol demand boost draws down stocks faster than the trade expected. Soybeans were largely neutral and wheat only slightly bullish.
After 1,040 past bullish report events, CORN moved a median +0.5% over 5 sessions (62% higher; middle half -0.9% to +2.0%), and +0.8% over 20.
After 563 past neutral report events, SOY moved a median -0.1% over 5 sessions (48% higher; middle half -1.7% to +1.6%), and -0.1% over 20.
After 769 past bullish report events, WHEAT moved a median +0.2% over 5 sessions (53% higher; middle half -1.4% to +2.0%), and +0.2% over 20.
