Maritime Strategies International reports US soybean exports fell 41% year on year in September and October, with shipments to China down 96%. Exports to other destinations rose 86%, and China imported only 67,000 tonnes of US soybeans in September versus 2.9 million a year earlier, due to a 25% Chinese tariff.
Chinese tariffs have shifted US soybean flows to Brazil, Argentina and Iran at lower prices, and the trade-war loss of China demand keeps US soybean export demand weaker. Any reopening of Chinese purchases would support US soybean and meal prices.
