The IRI April 2019 ENSO update says tropical Pacific sea surface temperatures held at weak El Niño levels in March and early April. The official CPC/IRI outlook gives about a 65% chance of El Niño prevailing in June-August, falling to 50-55% for September-November.
Persistent El Niño raises the risk of dry weather in Southeast Asia, Australia and Southern Africa, which can cut crop output and support grain and oilseed prices. The signal is still weak, so the price effect is limited for now.
