Latin American currencies edged down 0.3% on Monday as the dollar firmed amid concerns over the US-China trade dispute and a global slowdown. The index was on track for its worst quarter since June 2018, with the Argentine peso down nearly a third and the Brazilian real and Colombian peso each down about 7%.
A stronger dollar and weaker Latam currencies make South American feed exports cheaper in dollar terms, which can support soymeal and corn export flows, while currency stress in Brazil and Argentina weighs on farmer selling decisions.
After 301 past bullish macro events, Brazilian Real (BRL per USD) moved a median +0.4% over 5 sessions (57% higher; middle half -1.2% to +1.7%), and +1.0% over 20.
