Dollar funding costs in currency derivatives rose to their highest in nearly a year on Monday. Three-month euro-dollar cross-currency basis swaps widened to around minus 27 basis points, the widest since December 2020.
The move reflects a year-end dollar funding rush and the euro's steady decline against the greenback.
Tighter dollar funding and a firmer dollar tend to weigh on dollar-denominated commodity prices and can pressure import demand in emerging markets. For feed buyers, a stronger dollar lowers the local-currency cost of US feed ingredients for some buyers but tightens financing for others.
