The Vietnam Poultry Association asked the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry to raise tax and customs obstacles facing businesses with the relevant authorities. It says unrecoverable input VAT adds an estimated 3–5% to the cost of domestically produced commercial feed, while the sector imports 70–80% of its raw materials, including soybean meal, corn, and wheat; it also cites cash-flow challenges involving imported additives such as lysine and methionine.
The VAT treatment disadvantages local feed producers against finished-feed imports and increases costs for livestock farmers. Resolving the tax and import-cost issues could improve domestic feed competitiveness and ease costs, but no policy change has yet been announced.
