The US Energy Information Administration reported that biofuel feedstock use totaled 30.7 billion pounds in August, down from 31.3 billion in July. Soybean oil use fell 17% to 1.4 billion pounds, mainly due to lower use at renewable diesel plants, while corn use rose 0.7% to 26.8 billion pounds.
Lower soybean oil demand from biofuel plants weakens a key outlet for soybean crushing margins, which tends to pressure soybean oil prices and shift crush value toward meal. Higher corn use for ethanol and biofuels is mildly supportive for corn demand.
