An Australian analysis estimates feedlot placements using turn-off volumes and changes in cattle on feed. Queensland placed an average of 53,000 feeder cattle per week in Q2 2026, up 33% from Q2 2023, while NSW placements have been flat since Q1 2025 at about 20,000 per week.
Rising Queensland placements point to more feeder cattle entering shorter-fed programs, which adds supply to the feeder and live cattle complex and can pressure feeder prices if demand does not keep pace.
