The Australian Bureau of Meteorology's ENSO update says La Niña conditions persisted through November 2016 with weak negative sea surface temperatures across the central and eastern Pacific. Models favour a transition to ENSO-neutral conditions during January to March 2017.
La Niña is expected to affect US temperature and precipitation over the coming months.
Expected weakening of La Niña lowers the odds of drought in key South American and US growing regions, which tends to ease weather-driven price support for feed grains and oilseeds.
