Mexico's 2013 energy reform opened its fuel market to foreign investment and imports of gasoline and diesel. US companies, including Savage Companies and Koch Supply & Trading with Vopak Mexico, are building rail- and marine-served terminals to handle growing US fuel shipments.
Savage's central Mexico transload terminal began operations in January 2018.
Expanded terminal capacity should lift US refined-fuel exports to Mexico, which already took 52% of US gasoline exports in 2016. That firmer export demand modestly supports US diesel prices.
After 26 past bullish trade events, ULSD / Diesel moved a median -1.9% over 5 sessions (31% higher; middle half -5.6% to +1.6%), and -4.8% over 20.
