Ubrabio, a Brazilian biodiesel producers' association, proposed that the government retain 10% of soybean export earnings to be distributed to domestic crushers in proportion to soymeal sales. The proposal aims to offset distortions from the US-China trade dispute, which has boosted Brazilian soybean exports and domestic bean prices.
If adopted, the scheme would support Brazilian crushing and soymeal exports, but a policy export levy would also tighten Brazilian bean supply and raise domestic soy and meal costs.
