Diesel futures rose about 10% on Monday after drone attacks on Saudi Arabian oil facilities, which reportedly took about 50% of the country's production offline. NYMEX October ULSD settled up 20.6 cents, or 11%, at $2.0838 a gallon, a near four-month high.
U.S. distillate inventories were about 6% below the five-year average.
Tight distillate stocks plus a supply shock during the harvest period will keep diesel expensive through harvest and into winter. Higher fuel costs raise grain hauling and feed delivery expenses for buyers.
After 250 past bullish geopolitics events, ULSD / Diesel moved a median +1.7% over 5 sessions (58% higher; middle half -3.6% to +8.7%), and +0.9% over 20.
