Cornell researchers, publishing in Environmental Research Letters on May 24, predict climate-driven heat stress will reduce yields of several major US crops more than drought stress later this century. The study uses decades of observed data to resolve a debate between crop models and statistical models.
The findings affect long-term breeding and management outlooks but have little direct effect on current-season supply and prices.
