Ocean shipping experts at Marine Money Week Asia in Singapore warned that the IMO 2020 rule, which cuts the marine fuel sulfur limit to 0.5% from January 1, will be hard to meet. They said low-sulfur fuel supply is uncertain, scrubbers are unsustainable, and ships will quickly exhaust low-sulfur stockpiles.
One expert predicted prices would "go through the roof."
Tighter demand for compliant low-sulfur fuel could push up diesel and marine fuel prices, raising freight and fuel costs for feed ingredient logistics.
After 90 past bullish policy events, ULSD / Diesel moved a median +1.4% over 5 sessions (66% higher; middle half -1.9% to +4.1%), and +0.1% over 20.
