Argentine farmers increased forward selling of soybeans in late 2019 to avoid export taxes now in effect, according to a USDA GAIN report. Exporters had registered 5.52 million tons of forward sales by Dec.
18, against 588,000 tons a year earlier. USDA projects exports to fall from 9.1 million to 8.2 million tons, with production unchanged at 53 million tons.
Front-loaded sales have tightened Argentine offers, and expected slower farmer selling leaves less whole-bean supply in the near term. Shifts in export taxes could also redirect flows toward soy products.
