The Profercy World Nitrogen Index reached its highest level in about seven years as nitrogen products rose across the board. US UAN values rose sharply after CF Industries returned to the market with much higher offers, following production curtailments caused by the cold snap and higher gas prices.
Ammonia, amsul and US urea barge prices also climbed.
Cold-related production cuts and higher natural gas costs have tightened nitrogen supply, pushing fertilizer costs up for corn and other crops. Higher input costs are likely to pressure farm margins and support corn prices.
After 30 past bullish weather events, Urea moved a median +1.4% over 5 sessions (67% higher; middle half -0.3% to +1.6%), and +9.1% over 20.
After 221 past bullish weather events, Natural Gas moved a median +3.3% over 5 sessions (61% higher; middle half -5.2% to +14.0%), and -0.3% over 20.
