The USDA April report raised its 2023/24 world vegetable oil production estimate to 223.17 million tonnes from 222.85 million. Rapeseed, sunflower and palm oil output were raised while soybean oil was trimmed, and world meal production was lifted to 369.6 million tonnes.
Higher global meal output, including rapeseed and sunflower meal, adds to protein supply and is mildly bearish for meal prices. The soybean oil cut is small and gives limited support to oil values.
After 66 past neutral report events, Palm Oil moved a median +0.2% over 5 sessions (58% higher; middle half -0.4% to +2.0%), and +2.2% over 20.
After 399 past bearish report events, Soybean Meal moved a median -0.4% over 5 sessions (44% higher; middle half -2.4% to +1.2%), and -1.0% over 20.
Not enough comparable past events yet for a historical read.
After 114 past neutral report events, Soybean Oil moved a median +0.1% over 5 sessions (52% higher; middle half -1.7% to +1.4%), and +0.5% over 20.
Moves of each commodity's benchmark from the last close before the event. Historical reads pool past events of the same kind; they describe what happened, not what will. Not investment advice.
