USDA's January outlook projects a 3% increase in US pork production in 2025, to 28,525 million pounds. The hog inventory on December 1, 2024 rose less than 1% from a year earlier.
The analysis also sets a winter-spring April lean hog price range of $76 to $95.
Larger expected pork output would add supply and weigh on hog prices, though the forecast looks ambitious given the small inventory gain. Pork exports are projected to rise, which could partly offset the added supply.
After 159 past bearish report events, Lean Hogs moved a median -0.2% over 5 sessions (47% higher; middle half -2.2% to +1.3%), and +1.0% over 20.
