Urea prices fell globally in the week before May 12 as Chinese export policy remained unofficial. A May 7 NDRC meeting reportedly discussed a quota system for May to September exports, with volumes capped below 2023 levels and fertilizer exports to India prohibited, and granular urea was offered at about $370/t FOB China.
Expected Chinese export quotas and lower offers point to more supply entering the market, pressuring urea prices lower and easing nitrogen cost pressure for feed producers.
After 34 past bearish policy events, Urea moved a median -0.8% over 5 sessions (38% higher; middle half -3.3% to +1.8%), and -4.5% over 20.
