OPIS reports an analysis by Scott Irwin and Todd Hubbs projecting biomass-based diesel feedstock demand to rise 57% in 2026 and 81% in 2027 versus 2025 under the EPA's 2026-27 Renewable Volume Obligations. Total combined feedstock consumption is estimated to climb from 34.2 billion lbs in 2025 to 53.8 billion lbs in 2026 and 62.0 billion lbs in 2027.
The analysis says renewable diesel plants would need to run near full capacity.
A feedstock demand increase of this size would absorb large volumes of soybean oil and other fats, tightening supplies for food and feed uses. That points to firmer oil prices and higher competition for meal-linked crush output.
