China booked at least five cargoes, about 300,000 tonnes, of U.S. soybeans for April-May shipment, according to an Asia-based trader. USDA confirmed private exporters had reported sales of 198,000 tonnes to China and 198,000 tonnes to unknown destinations for the 2021/22 marketing year.
The purchases came despite peak Brazilian export season.
Chinese buying of U.S. soybeans during Brazil's peak export period supports U.S. soybean export demand and firms prices. Traders would expect this to narrow the U.S. basis discount.
