China's Ministry of Commerce said it would consider tariff cuts on US agricultural and animal-protein products including beef, pork, corn and wheat, but excluded soybeans. The White House says China committed to $17 billion annually in non-soybean farm purchases from 2026 through 2028, and China bought $5.2 billion of other ag goods January-July.
Expected purchases of US corn, wheat and meats could lift those markets if the commitments are met, while soybeans remain disadvantaged by the continued tariff.
