USDA's January reports raised corn yield to 186.5 bushels per acre, above expectations, and lifted production to a record 17 billion bushels. December 1 corn stocks were above trade estimates, and ending stocks came in higher than expected at 2.2 billion bushels.
Soybean yield was 53 bushels per acre, with production at 4.26 billion bushels and ending stocks at 350 million bushels.
The large upward revisions to corn production and stocks add substantial supply, which pushed futures sharply lower. Higher soybean and corn carryout also weighs on prices for feed buyers' input markets.
