The January 6 U.S. Drought Monitor shows 70% of the country in abnormal dryness or drought, with 44.8% in D1 or worse. Drought covers 32% of corn acres, 38% of soybean acres and 42% of winter wheat acres, and drought expanded in parts of southern Illinois and Missouri.
The National Weather Service expects more active weather over the following week.
Widespread drought across corn, soybean and winter wheat acres supports prices and raises the risk of supply tightness if dryness persists into spring. Forecast rain provides only limited relief so far.
