Innovasea adds rainbow trout to BiomassPro AI monitoring platform

US aquaculture technology company Innovasea has added a rainbow trout biomass algorithm to its BiomassPro solution, extending the platform's species coverage to eight fish and opening the tool to trout producers for the first time.

The new algorithm is designed to help trout farmers estimate biomass and monitor growth, generating data to support feeding strategies, production planning, and other farm management decisions, the company said.

With the addition, BiomassPro now covers Atlantic salmon, cobia, European sea bass, gilthead seabream, king salmon, rainbow trout, red snapper, and yellowtail.

BiomassPro combines an AI-powered camera with a digital dashboard and can operate with or without fixed infrastructure. According to Innovasea, the system can be deployed and retrieved by a single employee, and onboard data processing allows it to be moved between pens. Biomass data collected by the device is compiled with current and historical information in Innovasea's Realfish Pro platform, enabling farm managers to track growth performance over time and identify unexpected changes.

"Expanding BiomassPro to include rainbow trout allows us to bring proven biomass estimation capabilities to an important segment of the global aquaculture industry," said Marc Turano, Innovasea's general manager for Aquaculture Operations.

Tim Stone, Innovasea vice president of Aquaculture Technology, said the expanded species coverage was aimed at making data more accessible across different farm types. "By expanding BiomassPro's species coverage, we're making it simpler for more farms to access timely, actionable data that supports confident decision-making throughout the production cycle," he said.

Innovasea said the expanded species coverage gives producers a single biomass monitoring platform that can be deployed across different aquaculture operations.
