ADM Opens Second Aquaculture Hatchery and Nursery Feed Facility in Tianjin, China

ADM has inaugurated an early-nutrition aquafeed facility in Tianjin, China, making it the company's second production site worldwide dedicated to aquaculture hatchery and nursery feeds, according to a report by nutriNews Asia published on 21 September 2026.

The facility is now operational and primarily produces early-nutrition aquafeed products for fish and shrimp targeting hatchery and nursery stages. ADM said the site has an annual design capacity of approximately 5,000 tons and can produce products in a range of particle sizes from 50 microns to 3 millimeters.

According to nutriNews, the Tianjin plant follows ADM's long-established facility in Belgium and reflects what the company describes as 25 years of international expertise in early-stage aquaculture nutrition. ADM said its aquaculture hatchery and nursery nutrition business spans more than 60 countries and regions.

Technology and Products

The facility uses cold micro-extrusion and marumerization to produce highly water-stable micro-particles, which ADM says help maintain nutrient integrity in water and support access to critical nutrients for fish and shrimp throughout the feeding period. Products to be manufactured at the Tianjin site include the MeM and MeM Prime ranges, primarily used during the late larval and nursery stages.

APAC Market Rationale

Eric Carfi, General Manager, Animal Nutrition, China, said the new facility would improve supply efficiency for customers in China and across the Asia-Pacific region. "The Tianjin facility enables us to produce specialized hatchery and nursery feeds closer to customers in China and across APAC, while further improving regional supply efficiency," Carfi was quoted as saying.

Marc Campet, Technical Sales Director, Animal Nutrition, APAC, said the Tianjin facility would work in coordination with ADM's APAC aquaculture R&D centre in Vietnam. "With the Tianjin facility now operational, ADM has further strengthened coordination among its APAC R&D resources, local production in China and market applications. The Vietnam R&D center provides research and trial support, while the Tianjin facility carries out local production of hatchery feeds," Campet said.

ADM cited data from China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs showing that the country's aquaculture output exceeded 63 million tons in 2025, up 4.38% year on year, as context for the facility's strategic importance.

Inauguration Attendees

The inauguration was attended by ADM leaders including Gerald Wilflingseder (President, Animal Nutrition, APAC), Peggy Quan (President, ADM China), Helen Hu (President, Nutrition, APAC), Eric Carfi and Marc Campet, as well as representatives from the Tianjin Municipal Government, the Binhai New Area Government, the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone Administrative Commission, and customers from China, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Portfolio Expansion

With the Tianjin facility, ADM said its aquaculture nutrition products and services in China now extend further into the early stages of aquaculture production, creating what it described as a more complete portfolio from hatchery and nursery through grow-out. Beyond hatchery feeds, ADM also provides specialty feeds, feed ingredients, feed additives, probiotics, premixes and technical support for later grow-out stages.
