Brazil’s Copom cut the Selic rate by 0.25 percentage point to 13.75%, its fifth consecutive reduction, while the US Federal Reserve raised its policy rate to 3.75%–4.00%. The Ibovespa fell 0.51%, and the real weakened slightly against the dollar as the interest-rate differential narrowed.
A narrower Brazilian-US rate differential may reduce support for the real and raise the local-currency cost of imported feed and farm inputs. The Fed hike can also support the dollar more broadly.
