US natural gas futures fell about 4% to an eight-week low on July 10, 2026, with the August contract at $2.888 per mmBtu. Forecasts for less heat over the next two weeks, lower LNG feedgas during Freeport LNG maintenance in Texas, and storage 6.6% above normal all weighed on the market.
Calendar 2027 futures dropped to their lowest since February 2022.
Cooler forecasts cut gas-fired power burn, and reduced LNG feedgas removes a source of demand, so prices are pressured lower. Cheaper gas also lowers the cost of drying and processing for feed ingredients.
After 104 past bearish weather events, Natural Gas moved a median -7.8% over 5 sessions (22% higher; middle half -14.8% to -0.8%), and -3.3% over 20.
