Brazil urged the EU to review its proposed treatment of soy-based biofuels, which would classify soybean oil as a high indirect land-use-change-risk feedstock. The proposal could have made soybean oil ineligible toward EU renewable-energy targets by 2030, but the European Parliament blocked the Commission’s plan the previous month.
If adopted, the rule could weaken EU demand for soybean oil and affect major suppliers including Brazil, the US and Ukraine. The parliamentary block reduces the immediate risk, but the regulatory debate leaves future demand uncertain.
After 351 past bearish policy events, Soybean Oil moved a median -0.0% over 5 sessions (49% higher; middle half -1.7% to +1.8%), and -0.2% over 20.
