An OECD producer-support measure, cited by consultant David Miazzo, put Argentina’s support to agriculture at negative 15% of farm revenue, with an estimated US$8.6 billion transferred from the sector to the state annually. The article says Argentina, Vietnam and India were the only countries in the sample with negative support; it also notes that wet weather had slowed soybean harvesting, with 45% harvested against an expected 85%.
A substantial policy burden can weaken farm incentives and investment, potentially constraining future crop supply; wet harvest delays can also disrupt near-term availability. These factors are supportive of Argentine grain and oilseed prices, all else equal.
