The FAO reported that its global food price index fell to 133.9 points in October from a revised 135.6 in September, although it remained 5.9% above its year-earlier level. The cereal price index dropped 4.5% month on month as weaker import demand and improved production prospects, including in Argentina, weighed on wheat and corn; vegetable oil prices rose 0.3%.
Weaker import demand, larger harvest supplies and expectations of fewer Black Sea export restrictions added downward pressure to grain prices. The small rise in vegetable oil prices points to a contrasting, modestly firmer signal for soybean oil.
