USDA reopened the Columbus, New Mexico port to Mexican cattle imports on October 26, the third crossing to reopen after Douglas and Santa Teresa. Nogales, Arizona is scheduled to reopen November 30 if inspection conditions remain satisfactory.
All imported cattle remain subject to screwworm inspection.
Additional Mexican feeder cattle entering US feedlots add supply and competition for placements, which pressures feeder cattle prices. The phased reopening makes the supply increase gradual.
