New World screwworm has been confirmed in 79 animal cases across Texas, New Mexico and Arizona since June, according to USDA data, with 25 cases still active. The latest case was a cow in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, and Arizona recorded its first case in a dog in Cochise County.
Five wild fly detections have also been logged in surveillance traps, four of them in October.
