Peru's Ministry of Production set the second commercial anchovy season quota for 2016 at 2 million metric tons, 81% above the 2015 quota and higher than expected. The quota follows an IMARPE survey that estimated anchovy biomass at over 6.6 million tons, one of the highest levels in decades.
Commercial fishing resumes November 15.
A larger anchovy catch after a weak first season, which was delayed by El Niño, should lift fishmeal supply and ease upward pressure on fishmeal prices. Soybean meal may face less competition from fishmeal in feed formulations.
