The U.S. EIA put the national average on-highway diesel price at $6.352 a gallon on October 26, up 7.6 cents on the week and $2.634 above a year earlier. Its October Short-Term Energy Outlook forecasts diesel averaging $5.19 in 2026 and $4.49 in 2027, staying above $4 throughout 2027.
East Coast distillate inventories were 32% below the five-year seasonal average in September and are expected to remain 20% to 30% below average through winter.
Tight distillate inventories and a forecast of sustained high diesel prices raise freight and farm-operating costs, which supports diesel and energy-linked prices. Higher fuel costs also feed into the cost of feed ingredient transport and processing.
After 109 past bullish report events, ULSD / Diesel moved a median +0.2% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -3.3% to +3.9%), and +0.3% over 20.
