The EIA raised its 2026-2027 US retail diesel price forecasts by 4.4% and 8.2%, to $5.07/USG and $4.40/USG, in its monthly Short Term Energy Outlook. The agency cited low inventories and strong global demand, and said distillate prices have risen sharply since late February amid a US-Iran conflict and Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian refineries.
A tighter global distillate market raises the cost of diesel for trucking and farm logistics, and higher energy costs feed into fertilizer and feed transport expenses. The forecast revision points to sustained upward pressure on diesel prices.
