A new EIA-commissioned study finds that transportation fuel production in the Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions has grown substantially since 2005. In-region refinery output of fuels, net of ethanol and biodiesel inputs, reached 84% of demand in the Midwest and 101% in the Rocky Mountains in 2015.
Greater regional fuel self-sufficiency reduces dependence on Gulf Coast supply and may slightly dampen regional diesel price spikes. The effect on feed ingredient prices is minimal.
After 224 past report events, ULSD / Diesel moved a median -0.3% over 5 sessions (45% higher; middle half -3.9% to +2.5%), and +0.3% over 20.
