Indonesia has run its B20 biodiesel mandate, which blends 20% palm-based biodiesel into diesel, since 2016 and reports savings of up to US$1 billion in diesel imports. The Malaysian Palm Oil Board took Malaysian delegates to Jakarta to study the program.
Indonesia plans to move to B30 by 2020.
Mandated blending gives a structural floor to palm oil demand, and a move to B30 would add meaningfully to domestic consumption. Malaysia's own adoption of higher blends would add demand as well.
After 548 past bullish policy events, Palm Oil moved a median +0.4% over 5 sessions (61% higher; middle half -0.7% to +2.1%), and +0.9% over 20.
