The US will ask the WTO next week to investigate Chinese agricultural trade policies that Washington says unfairly restrict American rice, wheat and corn exports. The request follows WTO judges beginning to examine a separate US complaint about Chinese support for its grain farmers two months earlier.
If the complaint succeeds, US grain exports to China could gain access, but the case is slow and uncertain. Until then, restricted import quotas keep US grain demand from China limited, a mild negative for US grain prices.
