Argentina will levy an 8% export tax on biodiesel starting next year, according to a decree published in the official gazette. The move came days after the US International Trade Commission confirmed anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties on Argentine and Indonesian biodiesel for at least five years.
The government cited the need to harmonize with the 27% tax on soybean oil exports.
The tax raises the cost of Argentine biodiesel exports, which may reduce shipments and modestly support soybean oil demand in other markets. The effect on prices is likely limited because soybean oil export taxes already apply.
