The USDA's March WASDE cut its forecast for Argentine 2017-18 soybean production by 7 million tonnes, or 13%, to 47 million tonnes, citing persistent dryness and heat during flowering. The crush estimate was lowered only 1.5% to 43 million tonnes.
A much smaller Argentine crop reduces global soybean and meal availability, supporting prices for feed protein, while the modest crush cut means meal supply tightens less than the bean cut implies.
