The USDA's March 8 WASDE lowered its 2019 milk production forecast because of smaller expected dairy cow numbers. It raised the all-milk price forecast to $17.00 to $17.60 per cwt and raised the Class III and IV price forecasts.
Beef production was also cut, and cattle price forecasts were raised.
A smaller milk supply and higher product price forecasts point to firmer dairy prices, which supports the value of milk for dairy feed demand. Lower beef output and firmer cattle prices also tighten the livestock outlook.
