A study commissioned by Rainforest Foundation Norway projects that EU and other biofuel policies could raise palm and soy oil demand by up to 90% and 75% by 2030. This could cause about 7 million hectares of deforestation and 11.5 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The study says palm biodiesel is three times worse for the climate than regular diesel.
Expected policy pressure to phase out high-risk feedstocks for biofuels could limit future palm and soy oil demand from the biodiesel sector, a bearish factor for those oils over time.
After 400 past bearish policy events, Palm Oil moved a median -0.0% over 5 sessions (49% higher; middle half -1.3% to +1.1%), and +0.2% over 20.
After 351 past bearish policy events, Soybean Oil moved a median -0.0% over 5 sessions (49% higher; middle half -1.7% to +1.8%), and -0.2% over 20.
