The US Commerce Department opened countervailing duty investigations on July 17 into phosphate fertilizer imports from Morocco and Russia after a petition by Mosaic. Morocco's OCP Group warned it could halt phosphate sales to the US if anti-subsidy penalties are imposed, and Morocco and Russia were the top DAP and MAP exporters to the US in early 2020.
If duties are imposed on Moroccan and Russian DAP and MAP, US import supply tightens and domestic phosphate prices likely rise, while global phosphate supply could be redirected and prices elsewhere could ease.

After 193 past bullish trade events, DAP moved a median +0.4% over 5 sessions (54% higher; middle half -0.3% to +1.8%), and +1.9% over 20.

The US countervailing duty investigation and OCP's threat to exit the US market raise the risk of lost DAP/MAP supply from the top exporters, supporting higher prices.
