France's farm ministry put the 2021 soft wheat area at 4.9 million hectares, up 15%, with spring barley down 34% and total barley down 12% to 1.73 million hectares. Rapeseed falls 11% to 990,000 hectares, and the ministry notes recent frosts were not included in its estimates.
Smaller barley and rapeseed plantings support feed grain and rapeseed meal prices, while the frost risk adds upside uncertainty.
