Marathon Petroleum and ADM announced a joint venture to own and run ADM's Spiritwood, North Dakota soybean processing complex, which is due to start in 2023. The plant will supply about 600 million pounds of soybean oil a year exclusively to Marathon's renewable diesel facility in Dickinson, N.D.
Securing a dedicated local soybean crush for renewable diesel adds structural demand for soybeans and soybean oil. The effect on prices is small until the plant starts operating in 2023.
