S&P Global reports that high feedstock costs are slowing US renewable diesel expansion, with CVR Energy keeping its Wynnewood hydrocracker in oil service. Platts projects US renewable diesel output of 4,081 million gallons a year by 2025, up from 538 million in 2020, and most new plants plan to use soybean oil.
Rising demand for soybean oil as renewable diesel feedstock keeps its price high and supports soybean crush margins. Slower plant conversions could ease that demand, but the longer-term outlook still favors soybean oil.
